Canon 90mm f2.8 TS-E, Boxed 23538 - 1817107

This Canon TS-E 90mm f2.8 Tilt Shift Lens, #23538, is in great condition with minor handling wear. I rate it cosmetically a (9). The focus ring is smooth, the aperture functions properly, and the tilt/shift knobs loosen & tighten and have a full range of motion. The glass is clean and clear with no haze, marks, or fungus. There are a few faint specks of dust inside, but they do not affect image quality. This lens includes a Canon lens hood, front & rear caps, and the original box. Please refer to the photos for details.

What our Experts Think
  • Specialised tilt‑shift optic with Âą10° tilt and Âą12 mm shift for creative control over focus plane and perspective — perfect for product, architectural, and fine portrait work.
  • Excellent optical quality with UD + aspherical elements and Air Sphere Coating for high sharpness and low flare/ghosting.
  • Macro‑capable with 0.5× magnification and close‑focus performance for detailed still‑life and tabletop photography.
  • Manual focus lens suited to deliberate, controlled shooting rather than fast action — ideal on tripod for precision work.
  • Tilt & shift combined with rotation unlocks creative compositional effects and perspective correction.
  • Robust L‑series build quality ensures reliable professional use, though requires skill to master.
  • Steep learning curve—tilt‑shift techniques demand practice but reward with unique looks.
  • No autofocus or image stabilization — manual control remains essential for best results.

Q&A

Q1: What kind of lens is this?
A: It’s a 90 mm tilt‑shift prime lens for Canon EF mount with manual focus and adjustable perspective control for advanced photography.

Q2: What does “tilt‑shift” mean?
A: Tilt‑shift lets you tilt the lens plane to control depth of field creatively and shift the optical axis to correct perspective distortion (e.g., straightening building lines) without moving the camera.

Q3: Is this lens good for portraits?
A: Yes — the 90 mm focal length and f/2.8 aperture make it excellent for portraits with beautiful background separation and creative focus control.

Q4: Can it do close‑up or macro work?
A: Yes — it has macro capability up to 0.5× magnification and a minimum focus distance of ~0.39 m, allowing detailed product and close‑up shots.

Q5: Does it have autofocus or image stabilization?
A: No — it’s manual focus only and doesn’t include optical image stabilization, so use on a tripod or camera with IBIS for best results.

Q6: What’s the build quality like?
A: As an L‑series tilt‑shift macro lens, it offers professional‑grade optics, UD/ASC coatings to reduce flare/ghosting, and robust controls for precise tilt/shift adjustments.

Q7: What types of photography benefit most from this lens?
A: Ideal for architecture, product, still life, macro, portraits, and creative photography where perspective control or selective focus is desired.

Q8: What makes this lens special compared to standard primes?
A: Its tilt and shift movements allow creative control over depth of field and perspective that can’t be achieved by post‑processing alone.

Maintenance Tips
  • Keep optics clean: Use a blower and microfiber cloth; avoid touching the glass directly.
  • Use lens caps & hood: Prevent scratches, dust, and flare when not in use.
  • Store properly: Keep in a dry, padded case with silica gel to avoid moisture and fungus.
  • Handle tilt-shift carefully: Operate tilt and shift mechanisms smoothly; never force movements.
  • Avoid extreme conditions: Protect from rain, dust, heat, and humidity.
  • Check periodically: Inspect for dust inside the lens and ensure mechanical parts move freely.
  • Transport safely: Use a dedicated lens pouch or box to prevent impact damage.
